Michael (Mike) Butler

Managing Partner

Mike joined TagEnergy in January 2026 as Managing Partner, for the newly established TagEnergy Japan, leading the business in Japan.

Mike has previously worked at Shizen Energy as Chief Investment Officer of the International business and Head of the Investment & Finance Department. Michael joined Shizen in 2022 where he led global M&A and other investment activity.

Prior to Shizen, Mike worked for PwC Japan for 9 years from 2014 where he was a Director in the Public Services, Energy and Utilities M&A team leading M&A transactions in the energy and other infrastructure related spaces.

Michael started his career in the EY infrastructure Advisory team in London in 2009 doing similar Infrastructure M&A and advisory activities.

Michael is a graduate of Liverpool University (BA hons, 2005) and London University (MSc International Management, 2009. Michael is also a UK Chartered Accountant.

Kenji Kitano​

Senior Development Manager

Kenji joined TagEnergy in June 2026 as Senior Development Manager, heoversees the origination and overall development of BESS projects in Japan.

Prior to joining TagEnergy, he served as Head of Business Development atShizen Energy Inc., where he spearheaded the creation of a robust projectpipeline exceeding 1GW, with a primary focus on large-scale utility projects suchas golf course re-developments.

Earlier in his career, he spent over a decade at Fuji Electric Co., Ltd., drivinginternational sales and marketing for industrial electric equipment, includingtransformers, GIS, and PCS, which laid a solid foundation for his global businessexpertise. He holds an MBA from Anglia Ruskin University in the UK (2023).

Xiaofei Tan​

Senior Project Manager

Xiaofei joined TagEnergy in March 2026 as Senior Project Manager, focusing on transactions and development in Japan.

Xiaofei has previously worked at Shizen Energy as Group Leader of Project Execution team, leading execution of EHV BESS and solar projects. Xiaofei joined Shizen in 2023 as Investment and Finance Manager where she successfully closed multiple M&A transactions, fund raising for a subsidiary and setting up joint ventures with infrastructure funds.

Prior to Shizen, Xiaofei worked for Recruit Holdings Corporate Venture Capital, focusing on investing in early-stage star-ups in China, and lead the fundraise activity in a Japanese Robotic Company, which became a top player in the robotic field. Xiaofei started her career in PwC Advisory team in Japan, working on cross-border and domestic M&A deals.

Xiaofei is a graduate of Tokyo University (Master’s Degree, Applied Econometrics) and is a Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) and US Certified Public Accountant (USCPA).

Juan Die

Data Analyst

Juan graduated as a physicist from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid in June 2021. Fully committed to work in the renewable energy sector, he pursued his studies with a master’s degree in Energy at the same university.

Parallel to this, he worked as a solutions analyst for NTT-Data, managing Axpo’s database, where he developed his skills as a data analyst and acquired gas trading insights.

In 2022, Juan moved to Lisbon to join TagEnergy’s energy management team.

Juan is Data Analyst at TagEnergy, based in Lisbon.
